SAP Exchange Infrastructure, or XI as it is commonly known, can be equated to a message broker, or middleware. XI can be used for SAP to SAP messages or for SAP to non-SAP messages. SAP Exchange Infrastructure is also known as SAP Process Integration, or SAP PI.The components of the SAP XI system are available via a web interface for configuration, integration design, system landscape definition and integration server monitoring.
